The building
A 1905 hardware store that never stopped keeping goods
1905
the former hardware store on First Street
Steve Gurney opened Antique Station in 1994 inside a 1905 hardware store on First Street, in the heart of what is now Washington’s antique capital. The two-story building — high ceilings, wood floors, a striped canopy out front — has kept goods for well over a century. Only the goods have changed.
More than thirty years and one owner later, it holds 70+ dealers across nearly 20,000 square feet: a hardware store that quietly became an archive of everything that came after it.
It’s beautiful. My wife says I’m going to be buried in it.
